The “Friends of Paynter Home” launch was hosted by 6 St. Joseph House, a non-profit resource center operating out of a Victorian townhouse near Yonge and Wellesley. 6 St. Joseph helps people in vulnerable situations to take a “step-up” into better choices, offering compassionate hospitality and new opportunities for livelihood through creative enterprise. It has been developed largely by volunteers - people of all kinds who wish to help by sharing their talents and skills. They may be business people, or retired professionals available to mentor others. They may be ordinary citizens who have themselves traveled difficult roads, or come from a variety of faith communities. They may be artists and artisans, pedagogues and peacemakers !

It is also a place to learn, with a variety of ongoing programs and opportunities.

“Artreach” is an initiative of 6 St. Joseph that showcases the works of artists for whom the creative spirit prevails in the face of adversity. As Robert Burns, the creative thinker who “named” the project has put it: “Each of these works exemplifies the courage to create in challenging circumstances and to give vision and voice to our hopes for a more harmonious and caring community.”

“Community Enterprise Partners” recruits business mentors from the wider community to help participants create work for themselves in fields as diverse as information technology, film production and household repairs.
